            March 2001 – July 2004

§                                  Held positions as a senior legal officer, legal officer, and instructing clerk during this time;

§                Appear on behalf of the Director of Prosecutions to prosecute at sentences in the District as well as appear in the Magistrates Court at committals or summary prosecutions;

§                Provision of legal advice (including advising police officers on suitable charges and sufficiency of evidence);

§       Preparation of more difficult criminal files for sentence and trials (including charges such as murder, manslaughter, trafficking drugs and historical sex offences);

§       Legal drafting (indictments, summary of case, memorandums, subpoenas, etc.);

§                Liaising with legal and non-legal persons (including considering submissions not to proceed with prosecution);

§                Contact complainants and relatives in prosecutions for sexual and other violent offences in order to consult, inform and where necessary interview;

§       Supervise work of, motivate and provide leadership to the Legal Officers and Paralegal in a section within a Legal Practice Group; and

§       Instructed and assisted Crown Prosecutors at trial.

§       As part of the practical legal training course I completed as a part of my degree, I completed two months of full-time work experience at the law firm of Lynch and Meyer.

§       Researched cases and legislation, drafted pleadings, wills, and correspondence, and attended court proceedings and client conferences.

 

SKILLS AND INTERESTS

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         

§       Spent a year in Japan as an exchange student in 1994 and have good conversational Japanese ability.

§       I enjoy playing basketball, swimming, reading, traveling, music, and playing clarinet.
